The Gaslight Anthem

These guys are just good ol’ rock n’ roll. They have such a wonderful sound that brings up images of a time I never lived in and makes me want to quite this marketing thing, buy a guitar, and live the life of a rock n’ roller. Then the song ends and I come to my senses. I don’t have a single musical bone in my body, which makes me love amazing music like this even more.

I first heard of these guys thanks to We Are Hunted. Their sound is 1 part rock, 1 part punk, 1 part indie, and a dash of pure awesomeness. If the song New Low is by far my favorite track off of their debut album and gets me dancing on the bus everyday.

Thao Nguyen
 

I first saw Thao a couple years ago with my buddy Coat. She opened for Xiu Xiu and played a set that blew the both of us away. Her style makes me think of dimly lit coffee shops under the busy streets of Paris or London. I’ve never been to one, but this is the poetic imagery that comes to mind when I listen to her music. Check out her solo stuff (link above), her with The Get Down Stay Down, and her new work with Mirah.
